This design/construct project located on the hills of Berry Mountain over looked Kangaroo Valley. The design of the house was quite simple and aimed to sit comfortably in its surrounds with minimal impact. The brief was simple and involved creating a landscape that suited both the style of the house and the surrounding landscape while still creating a warm and inviting space for the user. Our landscape design followed the same minimalistic style set by the house via the way of using a minimalist style that utilised the surrounding scenery as a feature. Simple geometric forms and patterns were incorporated in an attempt to pay tribute to the houses simple architecture while also drawing the users attention into the space then out and beyond.
Geometry and scale were key in the design to balance the structure of the house with its placement in the surrounding landscape. A simple and some what rustic material palette was selected to fit in with both the architecture of the house and its surrounds. A mix of blue stone, recycled bricks, railway sleepers, hardwood and river pebble was used throughout to bring a welcoming and country estate feel to the property as soon as you enter.
