Gerringong Headland
Client: Bill
Year Completed: 2019
This design/construct project is located on the southern headland of Gerringong NSW. The newly completed house had quite distinctive industrial style architecture which needed to be carried on throughout the landscape. Combining this with its unique, coastal location we designed and built a unique and functional garden that had various coastal and industrial traits. Materials like recycled railway sleepers, blue stone, river pebble and spotted gum timber were used throughout to achieve such character throughout the landscape, while also creating a firm connection to the character of the house.
With a relatively small front yard and entry the front garden was designed to create visual impact upon arrival via the means of an informal recycled railway sleeper fence, blue stone steppers and lush semi tropical plantings that were sensitive to the harsh climate of the site. Corten steel was incorporated to tie in with the facade of the house.
The backyard was designed with family entertainment in mind. A large spotted gum deck provides a formal entertainent space which also offers views of the hillside beyond. Large contemporary steps lead to relaxed seating space and fire pit area paved in blue stone. Seating in this area takes shape in the form of a large recycled railway sleeper bench seat.
A large grassed area surrounded by lush plantings allows room for the kids and dog to play. While a dry creek bed curves through the yard providing a drainage solution while also acting as feature and adding to the coastal vibe of the property.
